South Korea overcomes a two-goal deficit to earn a point.
Kim Eun-joong and the South Korea Under-20 football team drew 2-2 with Honduras in their second match of Group F of the FIFA U-20 World Cup 2023 at the Estadio Malvinas Argentina in Mendoza, Argentina on Saturday at 6:00 a.m. ET. With one win and one draw, South Korea sits in second place in the group with four points.
On the day, South Korea deployed a 4-2-3-1 formation. Lee Young-joon started up front, followed by Kang Sung-jin, Kang Sang-yoon, and Kim Yong-hak. Lee Seung-won and Bae Jun-ho were in the third line, and the back four was made up of Bae Seo-joon, Kim Ji-soo, Choi Seok-hyun, and Park Chang-woo. Kim Jun-hong was in goal.
In response, Honduras went with a 4-5-1 formation. Aseituno started up top, followed by Macias, Ochoa, Castileo, Sorto, and Arzu in the midfield. The back four was Ariaga, Rodas, Tatum, and Felix, with Garcia in goal.
Something changed for Honduras. In the 18th minute, Aseituno went down with an injury, and Carter came on in a hurry. Honduras struck first. In the 22nd minute, Carter was tripped by Choi Seok-hyun. After a video assistant referee (VAR) review, the referee awarded a penalty kick. Ochoa stepped up and rattled the net.
Honduras got a bad break. In the 27th minute of the first half, Ochoa hit Bae Seo-Joon. After VAR, the referee canceled the yellow card and showed the red card. South Korea had a great chance in the final minutes of the first half. South Korea gained a foothold in the game. In the 13th minute of the second half, a cross from the left side was collected by Lee Young-joon, who immediately sent it to Kim Yong-hak. Kim Yong-hak split the goal with a quick shot. Honduras made a change as Arzu went out and Jose came in.
